Dry Eye Rheumatoid

Please read: Why night blindness in healthy eyes?

Around the age 35 I started experiencing night blindness, before then I loved driving at night, my vision was crystal clear.
I’ve went to a specialists he did extensive testing and determined my eyes were healthy aside from “dry eyes” I have been diagnosed with Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis but have not found any evidence that either is linked to night vision problems. I can NOT see to drive at night. I can not judge the distance of other vehicles. Lights become intense with the halo-effect.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know of any possible thing the doctor could of over looked in figuring out what has happened? I would love to find the reason and possibly be able to correct it. Thanks in advance.

It is possible you have acquired a slight refractive error. If on the myopic side, this is exaggerated at night due to something called “myopic shift” which occurs when the eyes are dark adapted.
Other possibilities are side effects from the meds you may be taking for lupus and RA, such as steroids.
Steroids can induce cataract changes which can be subtle at first.
Lastly, the dry eyes make it hard to focus and this effect is exaggerated with the poor contrast of night driving.
Go to an ophthalmologist and have him/her check for these possibilities.
