Facing the truth about going Deaf

As we grow older, it is normal to become concerned about various ailments we’re suffering from as we progress through life. Whether we worry about our hair thinning, wrinkle lines on our face, or simply getting old, it can be a hard job to admit not only to yourself, but others around you, that you are concerned. It can become even harder to acknowledge that you’re suffering from a problem with one of your senses without letting other people know what you are going through. Not only can it cause health problems, but it can put a strain on relationships on people you’re close with if they do not understand what suffering you are going through.

Not only can deafness feel leave you feeling socially isolated, it sometimes can take people 15 years before they believe they are in need of a hearing test. The main stigma behind this fact being that many believe deafness to be a symptom of the onset of old age and the perception that having to wear a hearing aid to help you hear better feel old fashioned and unsightly if out in the public eye.

The effect deafness can have on relationships

It’s easy to feel that there is no need to take action to help understand whether you’re suffering from deafness or not if you’re in a relationship, as it could lead to undesired conflicts occurring with your partner. A RNID survey recently revealed that delaying taking action to help sufferers lead to their partners feeling frustrated, and causing an on-going bitterness between in their relationship. This can be easily understood as the possibility of misunderstanding what the other is saying, or simply the distraction of being worried can cause a rift between couples.

Why you should confront hearing loss sooner rather than later

In today’s modern world, there are a variety of different methods of confronting the problem of hearing loss. Most high streets now have places where opticians can also carry out hearing tests on their patients. It’s easy to believe that you are suffering through this alone, but statistics show that one in seven people, around 9 million people, suffer from hearing loss in the UK. Another reason why you should act soon is that it can have a positive effect on your relationships with family and friends.
