How can I get my neighbors to stop scaring me?

Ok, I know these sounds like a weird problem, but I need a solution. I live in a culdesac (the dead-end side). I have a fear of small people that goes back to being beat up by classmates when I was a small child. Well, as odd as it seems, every time I see a small person, I start to tremble and freeze up. Well, my problem is that when I try to leave my house, I always have to drive down my LONG road to get to where I’m going to go. Well, there are usually people outside working on their yard, washing their car, etc.. When I look down the road they appear small due to my visual perspective (things far away look smaller). Well, even though I know that it is ALL due to visual perspective, I still freak out seeing all these small people down the road. I can’t leave my house and I am a prisoner in my own home. Psychiatric help does not seem to work, and I really can’t drive down the street with my eyes closed. Please give me any suggestions.

That is a great question. You certainly have a vivid imagination.

I’ll attempt to answer the question assuming that you have a real problem.

First of all, when you were being accosted, you were the same size as your adversaries. So, you should only be afraid of people who are the same height as you are now. Of course, that concept would certainly exacerbate your problem. So, let’s forget that one.

We’ll have to get metaphysical to solve this conundrum. I’ll create a parable for you to envision when that fear comes over you.

The adult hawk soars over all other adversaries in the sky. He is the master of his domain. In fact, when he is soaring, he sees other animals as small and insignificant entities to be exploited and devoured.
