Eyes Infection Treatment
Is there a natural remedy I can use to ease a cat’s eye infection?
My friend recently got a Russian Blue kitten. Poor thing developed an eye infection and my friend would prefer a natural treatment she can use at home to heal the infection if possible. Thanks!
If the infection is caused by the herpes virus (half of them usually are, the other half are from calci viruses) you can home treat that with 250 mg of lysine powdered (crushed the pill with a spoon) and sprinkled over their food for 5-7 days. Usually by day 3 there’s a significant improvement and the eyes are good after 7 days.
If you treat for the herpes virus and see no improvement, it’s a good bet the cat has a calci virus or a different kind. Lysine works wonderfully for the herpes but won’t touch the others.
If the eyes are very bad, you can go up to 500mg a day for the cat, it’s not something that will be toxic if a heavier dose is given. Lysine is cheap, at the grocery store in the vitamin section, it runs something like $4 for 60 pills, for the generic form. AND it works on cold sores for us, too. It’s good to have in the medicine cabinet.
