Lazy Eye Surgery Children

I have a child with lazy eye. I detected the lazy eye when she was 8 months, now she is 22 months?
We tried to patch it and it actually worked for a few months but then she wanted to take that off and we let it off for other months and her last doctor’s appt they recommend surgery. I have a friend that his daughter has the same prblem and the best doctor in Monterrey recommended not to do surgery at that early age. I am getting a second oppinnion but still worried about doing the surgery or wait. Thank you
My daughter has strabismus (eyes aren’t aligned), but not a lazy eye, though they’re often confused. In her case, she was given glasses, and while they helped with some of the crossing, they didn’t completely resolve it, so after 7 months in glasses, we had her undergo the surgery. She was 22 months. So far, it has been successful, and I’m pleased that we did it.
Even though it was successful, I think the surgery should be a last resort of other methods aren’t solving the issue A lot of times, patching or glasses will be all that’s needed. On the other hand, you don’t want to wait too long if her eyes aren’t working together, because the earlier it’s resolved, the better chance she’ll have of developing vision where her eyes work together. I would go to the second opinion and see what they say. If the doctor recommends patching or glasses, really push for it for your daughter, because it’s worth it. If the doctor still recommends the surgery, though, I would do it.
