Scientists University of California, San Diego has received a National Institutes of Health grant to study the regenerative capacity of retinal cells in the hope to find treatments for macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa.

The UCSD team is looking specifically to cells Muller, the fish used to regenerate nerve cells after injury to the eyes and are also present in the nervous system of humans.
