Vision Care Vendors

It’s February Already and I Don’t Care How Well Your Goals are Doing
Boy, what would we do without holidays to make us feel guilty about failed attempts at goal achievement? Whether it’s the New Year’s traditional ‘resolutions’, Valentine’s Day ‘renewed passion’ or Spring’s ‘renewed focus’, these themes are tired and artificial. None will really do the trick of advancing your goals.
Can we try something novel? There’s no greater reason to move forward on true commitments than the reward you’ll enjoy; period. Somehow, small business owners find it easy to forget who they’re doing it for and who’ll really benefit – that would be #1 (you) and those you love and who may count on you to enjoy a good life with them. Now, you may take on ‘obligations’ and ‘responsibilities’ on behalf of someone else and do so with some internal negotiation dance. I hope the benefit is always bigger on your side of the equation. However, ‘commitment’ – the piece that makes ‘resolutions’ become ‘reality’ – is the glue that holds the steps together; it’s the importance and personal ‘tug’ of the resolution, not the holiday, that will urge you forward, to feel proud of your success at year’s end and able to say: “I did it!” Whether it’s weight loss, an exit strategy, letting go of a bad habit or an under-performing employee, it won’t happen without you turning commitment into action. So are you committed to having the business that truly honors your desire for more free time, for more money, for a better night’s sleep? It’s happened before, it can happen again – for you.
There’s a vision you have for a different way of running your business and participating in your life; don’t let it stay in the back of your mind as a brief mental getaway when things are knotty. Remember – you’ve made a commitment; the fact that it’s to your self should not make it stronger just because of the holiday you’re observing. Every day is a great day to be reminded: you’re building your business to deliver value, 100% of the time, for you, your customers, employees, partners and vendors. And one day, when it’s running with all those pieces in place, you’ll be sitting on a beach with your favorite beverage, zoning out with the sound of the ocean, able to say: “I did it!” And the ability to say that, with just the result you want, is stronger than any rote holiday tradition of writing down a list of to-do’s. And that’s why I don’t care how your resolutions are doing: you’re the only one who should care and be galvanized to make them happen; I’m working on my own!
